Simulated flight to T82

I have an upcoming flight to Fredericksburg, Texas with my cousin Joey and one of his friends. Since it’s been a few weeks since I’ve flown, I decided to fire up Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and do a quick flight to the destination airport. I used this opportunity to also shoot the VOR/DME-A approach to the airport for some navigation tracking and holding practice.

It was an enjoyable hour on the computer. I’m still amazed at the beauty of Flight Simulator 2004 and the thought that the next version will be even better. Each new version for the past decade have sported new features and better graphics with the net result being a more realistic and satisfying flight simulation experience.

Only one item threatens the fun of my simulated flights. Controller issues. I use a CH FlightSim Yoke USB and CH ProPedals USB. Even after installing a new version of the CH controller software I encountered some annoying “left roll” tendencies with the yoke centered. On autopilot the effect of this roll is blatant - the aircraft flies slipping against the roll in an uncomfortable stance.

I’ll continue to work on how to improve the consistency of the devices I use for my flight simming. Sometimes everything works perfectly…but more often than not, I’m plagued with one or two annoying discoveries.
