Oshkosh 2006

Currently, I’m sitting in the C concourse at O’Hare International Airport. I am, once again, the victim of a flight cancelled because a flight crew needed their FAA “required crew rest.”

The same thing happened to me a few months ago when I visited Oshkosh for the Aeroscholars Conference. I think I’m going to do a little more research on this! For the time being, I’ll have to add United to my banned list of airlines (Northwest is the other).

But…enough about airport delays! I am returning from another spectacular Oshkosh! I was fortunate to be hired (again) by General Aviation News to be their photographer on the grounds. When it was all said and done, I believe I took close to 800 photos!

Some of the big highlights at the show included:

  • Cessna unveling an airplane in the new Light Sport Aircraft category. In addition, they debuted (at a distance) a new airplane they dubbed the “NGP” - Next Generation Piston. What some refer to as a “Cirrus Killer”. That remains to be seen…but from what I could see, it almost looks like the offspring of a Cirrus and Cessna (an observation originally made by coworker and famed aviation writer, Meg Godlewski).
  • Arrival of a B-1B bomber and a British Lancaster bomber (one of only two still flying).
  • An amazing demonstration by two F-22 “Raptor” aircraft - the Air Force replacement for the F-15 and an incredible airplane with its unique vectored thrust.
  • I should be posting a photo gallery within the next few weeks!
