Freezing fog diversion…

Cousin Joey and I had a fun flight planned yesterday for Brenham Municipal Airport. This is a destination Joey hasn’t visited and I was eager to introduce him to the 50’s Diner on the field and the waitresses with their poodle skirts.

I awoke yesterday to clear, blue skies and METAR reports of “clear below 12,000 feet.” Moving east, however, the Brenham AWOS reported the following:
METAR K11R 221445Z AUTO 00000KT M1/4SM FZFG OVC001 M01/M01 A3035 RMK AO2

Freezing fog? That didn’t sound good. After talking to a weather briefer, Joey and I decided to head to another destination he’d never been to - Kerrville Municipal/Louis Schreiner Field (KERV).

Joey Hemming - 40+ hours

I received the following e-mail the other day from my cousin Joey…

From: Joey Hemming
To: Justin Moore
Subject: Our last flight

Hi Justin,

Hey, I meant to mention to you that our last flight put me over the 40 hour make. I’m now sitting at 41.525 hours!! And all but about 23 minutes have been with you as PIC!!

Just wanted to share!!

-Joey

I just wanted to take a few moments to congratulate Joey. He has always kept a log of all of our flights and hearing that he’d spent over 40 hours in the air with me was a nice surprise. Joey’s been a huge supporter of my flying and has an interest in aviation that is contagious.

That flying smile…

On my last flight a couple of weeks ago, I took a gentleman up for his first flight in a small airplane. His name was Ronnie Green, a friend of my cousin and frequent passenger Joey Hemming. Joey’s done a great job of recruiting folks to join us for flights and to introduce others to the fun and safety of general aviation. Ronnie became the latest member of my Rogue’s Gallery.

I think I’m fairly convinced that taking someone up on their first flight is at the top of my “favorite moments in the air” category.
