Back in the air (again!)

My Aerial Steed - 2003 Cessna Skyhawk SP
I could feel my pilot wings start to flutter when I looked outside on Sunday morning to see that a sea of cloudless, blue sky beckoned from above. Sunday morning marked my return to the air after a hiatus of a few months.

Don’t get me wrong. The urge to fly has always been there but I have been ignoring its siren call to pursue other, less expensive (yes, like everyone else in this economy, I’ve had to be more mindful of expenses) and almost as gratifying endeavors like cycling.

He lives!

Promise to post several updates! I have done some flying since my last blog post and hope to do some flying during my holiday vacation.

Money is a bit tight these days so I have not flown nearly as much as I’d like. I have mentally reconciled that maintaining my IFR currency is just not realistic given the time/cost involved. I’ll concentrate on keeping VFR current and look forward to the future when I can regain my cloud-busting flying privileges.

Oshkosh Photo Gallery

One update from Oshkosh and then dead silence.

Sorry folks. As usual, I got too darn busy!

I captured more than 1200 images during my three full days on the grounds at Airventure 2008. Here’s a link to a Flickr photo gallery that will slowly be updated with shots as I find time to edit/upload:

Oshkosh 2008 - Update One

Yesterday was my first full day on the Oshkosh grounds. The weather could not have been more perfect. I am completely amazed at how early the sun rises here. I was awakened by dawn light at 5am-ish! Whoa!

We had a full day of covering various stories including the first public flight and announcement of a new jet created by the highly successful Cirrus Aircraft company. It made a single fly-by and I was ready with my Canon EOS-1D Mark II set on a high-speed motor drive.

Here’s the shot:

Gotta run for now - will post a more thorough update soon!

Oshkosh here I come…

I arrive in Appleton, WI tomorrow evening and will be on the grounds shooting photos at Oshkosh Wednesday through Friday for General Aviation News. Look forward to returning to Oshkosh after a two-year absence.

If time permits, I’ll post blog entries daily about my experiences. I really enjoying working with the great staff at GANews and look forward to capturing many great photos to grace the pages of their fine periodical…
